The Changing Body
For this edition, I was inspired by Sandra Beth Levy’s poem “Victorious.” This poem is in her forthcoming book Unfurling the Scroll of Seven Decades, now available for pre-order. Her piece highlights the beauty of a lover’s changing body. I wrote about this topic recently, too, in my poem “A Second Helping” published by The Hooghly Review in their special issue Fictile Feelings edited by Sanjeev Sethi. Thank you to Sanjeev and THR!
I recently curated a magazine on the theme body, and one of the poems in this collection stood out as perfect for this concept of change: “Submerged” by Holly Woodward. See the ending to this beautiful and unique poem below, and read the full piece free: Poetry (in Brief) the Magazine Issue II: Body.
For a youthful look at this subject, I remembered reading a piece “Growing Pains” in row house song by Danielle McMahon. You can actually download this chapbook for free here: Ghost City Press. Danielle also has a full-length on the same subjects of youth and nostalgia with Stanchion Press: irl.
Our bodies change over time. How we treat and use them changes, too. I hope these pieces inspire the reader to love the body they are in right now.
