Thump 19 and 20 - I chose two books by women that are rooted in time and place for my next round of THUMPS. Thumps are short positive reviews of books out with indie presses.

19: Old World Wings by A.M. Hayden

Press: Wild Ink Publishing

Favorite Poem: Louvre Fem

  1. It’s very interesting to read about places you have been through another poet’s perspective.

  2. I love to learn while reading. Amanda examines history and culture in this informative  and beautiful collection.

  3. I was pleasantly surprised to discover this was a photography and poetry collection! This is work I also do, so it was cool to see what a full collection can look like. Bravo!

20: Another Place Altogether by Candice Kelsey

Press: Kelsay Books

Favorite Poem: Ode To Ms. Pac-Man

  1. I respect, admire, and am thankful for the unflinching way Candice comments on  womanhood in America.

  2. Candice examines places in a complex and compelling way, particularly cities and their intersection with identity.

  3. Having read much of her work, I find that Candice’s writing is changing. She is becoming less apologetic. I love that for her and also for what it is doing to her writing.

I requested both of these books to be carried at High Plains Library District in Colorado where they are now available.
